Happy Easter--Cherry Blossoms from DC

Last Easter, I was in DC (for the first time) with Dad, searching for cherry blossom flowers. Since it was a particularly cold winter, we arrived to find the flowers still in bud. Although we were there for 6 days, it wasn't until the last day that some of them actually started to open. We ended up missing the "peak" by a few days, but did manage to see the beginnings of the bloom. 

It was magnificent. 

You should have seen us frantically walking around the Tidal Basin, just hours before we had to leave for the airport, snapping pictures left and right because the blossoms were everywhere! 

On this Easter Sunday, I am sharing some of my cherry blossom pictures. Among other things, cherry blossoms symbolize the fragility of life and also a sense of renewal. As Easter focuses on the atoning sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, I think pictures of cherry blossoms are an appropriate representation of these sacred blessings.

Despite the fact that their bloom is very short (a cherry blossom tree's bloom period is about 2 weeks), they are an incredible sight to behold. For those two weeks, they bloom and flower with all their might, adding beauty and joy to all who see them. May our lives and our good works be as bright and beautiful, as splendid and sublime, as magnificent and majestic, as regal and resplendent as the cherry blossoms, bringing happiness and cheer to those around us.
